By plane, train, car and fast boat/ferry we arrived on Rodoya, The Red Lion Island and home to Hlin Hansen and family in late July. We had crew from Norway, Germany, Israel, USA, and dancers from Ireland, Norway, USA, and France.
The weather was wet and cold and sunny and windy. The scenery was breathtaking. Our hosts, the Hansens, were gracious, friendly and worked as hard as any dog soldier to help us get ready for the dance. We also had several neighbors show up to fire up their chainsaws and lend their muscles. Other neighbors brought bedding and mattresses and fish “swam in the front door” most days as they were dropped off for our eating pleasure.
The Norway Dance next year will be again on the Red Lion and on 26-29 July. Start saving your kroner and scheduling your time off. It is worth the trip to dance and “be” north of the Arctic Circle in the midnight sun.
